Staying active

December 2022
Staying active

Earlier in the year we helped AFC Tickton Walking Football with a grant of £1,000 towards their walking football project.

During 2022 AFC Tickton Walking Football has seen a significant growth in membership and weekly player attendance. They now believe that they have a sustainable and forward-looking Club that is enjoyed at all ages and abilities (both male and female).

They have a registered membership of 41 – up by 18 from at the start of 2022 - and a regular twice weekly attendance of more than 20 players for each session.

The club also offers a number of social events such as quizzes and meals.

Since Covid the club has been playing its football on outside pitches, and as such they were looking to provide each member with the opportunity to purchase suitable playing kits, tracksuits and waterproof jackets at subsidised prices. As you can see on the photo, they were able to brand the clothing with logos of their grant supporters. In addition, they have also been able to purchase outdoor footballs, team bibs and pitch markers.

The club is particularly proud of the positive feedback that they have received from members around the “spin off “welfare benefits that Walking Football is providing to them, such as:

  • Weight loss they have achieved
  • Reduction in levels of medication e.g. blood pressure
  • Mental stimulation through social interaction
  • Group belonging through being part of a club

These benefits are particularly rewarding and are reflected in the growing numbers of attendees for the twice weekly sessions and the commitment given to the social activities now being offered.

The club is in a good place for 2023, and we are delighted to have played a part in this.
