In March funding was awarded to Mark. He is a full-time wheelchair user following a spinal cord injury. He has no use of his legs, and has intense neuropathic pain episodes, which are controlled with medication. Pre injury he was an avid mountain biker and was very active with his three young children now aged five (twins) and eight.
The grant was used to purchase an adapted mountain bike. Mark confirmed that the adapted mountain bike had now been successfully purchased and was in use. The adapted bike has had a positive impact on Mark's day-to-day quality of life. Pre injury mark found that his mental and physical wellbeing greatly benefitted from his friendship circle, who were all bikers. Being able to unwind in the wilderness had huge benefits to his wellbeing.
Mark reported to us that the bike has enabled him to get outside more often, get out and about within the community, and increase his social engagement. The equipment has provided greater opportunities to access outdoor activities and participate in the community, supporting his wellbeing and independence.
