Pete Calveley
Pete Calveley is Chief Executive of Barchester Healthcare. A leader in the health and social care sector for over 25 years, Pete Calveley has used his extensive knowledge and passion for the care sector to successfully lead Barchester Healthcare since 2014.
Having been voted by others in the industry as the outstanding leader in the Health Investor Power 50 for the last 2 years running, under his leadership Barchester has been ranked in the 15th annual Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250, placing 7th in the list, been accredited with a 1 star rating in the Best Companies survey and won a prestigious Healthcare Services Industry Sector award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for contribution to occupational health and safety in the healthcare sector.
Pete spearheaded the company’s continually improving commercial performance, built on the foundations of Barchester’s Quality First delivery programme, which he introduced. This programme has seen the company’s CQC good and outstanding ratings improve to their highest level ever. The excellent results have allowed for further investment in major refurbishment and new build programmes together with a sector-leading staff benefits and recognition scheme.
Pete’s background has always been in the health industry. He is a doctor of medicine from Leeds University, worked as a GP for 20 years and was a member of the former Department of Health Forward Thinking Group, which informed policy decisions. He is currently on the board at Care England, the care sector representative body that advises and lobbies on behalf of the sector to government, regulators and commissioners.
Pete is also a regular contributor to major conferences, industry events and advisory panels in the healthcare sector. He believes strongly in an industry which safeguards individuals and delivers high quality service and care for customers.
