Out and about

We helped Charlotte, 30, from Leicester with a grant for a mobility scooter. Charlotte has multiple long-term health conditions and disabilities.
This is the feedback we received from Charlotte:
"The grant has made a significant difference to my independence and overall wellbeing.
Before receiving the mobility scooter, leaving the house often caused pain, fatigue, and anxiety. I had to carefully plan outings, rely on others for support, or avoid going out altogether. This greatly limited my ability to attend appointments, run errands, or take part in everyday activities.
Since receiving the scooter, I am able to leave the house more confidently and safely. I can attend appointments, go out locally, and participate in community life in ways that were not possible before. I can also take my dog on longer walks, which she loves! It has reduced the physical strain on my body and has helped prevent flare-ups caused by overexertion.
The scooter has also had a positive impact on my mental health. Regaining independence has reduced feelings of isolation and increased my confidence. Being able to move freely and make decisions about when and where I go has helped restore a sense of dignity and control over my daily life.
I am now able to leave the house without fear of becoming exhausted or unwell, and I no longer have to depend on others for short journeys. Simple activities such as going out for fresh air, visiting local shops, attending appointments, or spending time outside the home are now achievable and far less stressful.
Overall, the grant has enabled me to live more independently, remain connected to my community, and enjoy a much improved quality of life. I am extremely grateful to Barchester’s Charitable Foundation for making this possible.
The grant has transformed my quality of life. Being able to go out independently has improved both my physical and mental wellbeing."
