Billy & Andy's Music School, a Community Interest Company based in South Manchester, received funding from us in 2024. They passionately craft inclusive music activities for individuals with special needs and disabilities, particularly those aged 18 and above, who often struggle to access creative outlets post full-time education. They combat social isolation by offering diverse music-based activities.
The funding they received from us was spent on a range of accessible musical instruments, both acoustic and electronic, speakers and instrument clamps. The instruments are specifically designed to accommodate the needs of individuals with special needs and disabilities, enabling them to participate in music-making in ways traditional instruments might not allow.
The purchases included a wide range of instruments, including an auto harp, finger drum machine, keyboard and various hand percussion instruments. These instruments were used in group music workshops tailored for people with special needs and disabilities.
The arrival of the instruments was met with excitement and curiosity. Most participants had never seen such innovative tools, and their reactions were overwhelmingly positive. Many reported increased confidence, improved social interaction, and a sense of accomplishment. The instruments have not only enhanced their workshops but also demonstrated the transformative power of music for individuals with special needs.
