'A day trip to happiness'
/ July 2026Funding was awarded to Artconnexion UK. They are a Community Interest Company based in Mousehole, Penzance and through their award-winning creative literacy and wellbeing projects they connect communities in the area. With our funding they were able to work with two different groups of adults with learning and physical disabilities in Cornwall, delivering creative wellbeing workshops that gave those taking part a ticket for their journey to wellbeing.
They were then able to invite them all to come together and have a Day Trip to Happiness on the Falmouth branch line where further creative activities took place. Their destination was Falmouth beach where they had a wonderful time by the shore. They reported to us that one particularly moving moment was when one participant, who was non-verbal, said “ Wow” when he got off the train and saw the sea.
This Day Trip to Happiness enabled everyone to make new friends and have an adventure. It filled everyone with happiness! One of the most popular activities was the interactive songwriting – they wrote a song about what made them happy and absolutely everybody contributed. This activity gave people the confidence to know that their ideas were valid and that as a group they could not only write an instant song, but sing it too. They were so inspired by the singing that they sang all the way home on the train! This project showed them that their own ideas and thoughts were very valuable.
