In April 2024 we awarded funding to Headway Nottingham. They are dedicated to supporting adults in Nottingham City and County who have undergone acquired brain injuries (ABIs). ABIs are a life-altering event and often leaves individuals with complex disabilities and long-lasting consequences.
Our funding supported the delivery of their weekly Therapeutic Textiles workshops between June and October that year. The workshops took place one afternoon per week and provided a unique and creative means of encouraging their clients to engage with physical, cognitive and behavioral rehabilitation, as well as practicing social skills and learning mindfulness practices.
Headway Nottingham reported that 14 clients participated in the workshops over the course of five months, the majority of whom were otherwise disinclined to engage with other sessions on their rehabilitation timetable due to a severe lack of confidence in their ability to achieve, or due to physical difficulties which have presented as a barrier to their participation. In these workshops they were thrilled to have seen full and meaningful engagement from every participant in every session.
