Hurst Bowling Club

/ August 2022
Hurst Bowling Club circa 1747

We were pleased to have had the opportunity to award a funding contribution to Hurst Bowling Club back in March this year. The grant was used for the purchase of three sets of woods (bowls) and three carriers. These woods are, apparently, the smallest adult woods to date. The indent finger holds are suitable for elderly bowlers and for those experiencing a reduction in hand/arm strength.

The clubs elderly bowlers were delighted. The new “grip” on the woods was just right. Their 97-year-old gentleman was pleased to be able to bowl to the jack with as much accuracy as he remembered. This was a delight for the club, as they were unsure how some of their guests would respond to two years of inactivity following the pandemic.

The smaller woods are reserved for their elderly bowlers. They are stamped “Hurst Bowling Club” by the manufacturers and on different days they are used for coaching. On Thursday afternoons their guests enjoy socialising and listening to life stories. The club reported that Thursday afternoons have come alive again during the season.

The club offered us their sincere thanks for contributing to their community project and described our funding as transformational, which we found heart warming!
