We recently awarding funding to the Worsley Concert Band., who are a non-auditioned community concert band, which rehearses every Wednesday evening at the Wardley Community Centre in Bolton, Greater Manchester.
The money was spent on a digital music stand for one of their members who is sight impaired. The band highlighted the fact that she was struggling to read the music, especially when the notes were higher on the stave and used a lot of ledger lines, which, as a flute player, happens a lot.
They had tried enlarging the music, but that made it too big for a normal music stand and also made it more blurry, hence exacerbating the problem. She had been considering leaving the band prior to receiving the stand, so our grant has meant that she could continue to play her flute in the band and carry on with the hobby that she loves.
In their feedback to us, the band reported that the digital stand was well received by all their members of the band as well as the main user. Everyone was really happy to see a long standing member of the band be able to continue playing with them with much less of a struggle.
