At the end of 2022 we awarded a funding contribution to the Lambeth Asian Centre. They are a not for profit charitable organisation aimed at promoting the welfare, wellbeing, interests, needs and rights of people in the Asian community living in London Borough of Lambeth. The charity helps older people aged 65+ affected by isolation, loneliness and poverty.
Our funding contributed to the running of 3 hour sessions per week for 40 weeks, which included activities such as a luncheon club for healthy eating, arts, crafts and physical health activities, music and conversation, outings, bhajans, yoga and bingo.
The activities address issues of older Asian people with the aims of improving social integration by reducing isolation, poverty, and deprivation, enabling them to maintain their independence and making the community more accessible. The older people reported improved emotional and physical wellbeing as well as feeling more confident.
