In July we awarded funding to Reddish Men in Sheds. They are a group of (mainly) older men who meet three afternoons each week to service and repair donated old bicycles.
They donate bikes via their 'Bike Giveaway' scheme to community groups and bike libraries to serve communities facing financial or social disadvantage. This prevents a lot of old bikes from sitting idle, unloved and rusting; bikes that may otherwise go to waste or landfill. As they are a not-for-profit group, the Bike Giveaway relies on external funding. They have 20 members at present, all of whom take part in the project.
The funding received from us went towards their ‘Bike Giveaway’ project to cover the cost of repairs/replacement parts. This has so far enabled them to donate 13 bikes to people who would not otherwise get a chance to experience the joys and benefits of cycling. This has had an amazing impact on their recipients.
