Headway Milton Keynes applied for a grant from us for new exercise equipment, which was successful. Each week they support 50+ brain injury survivors and within a week they host 4 one hour exercise sessions. The group helps individuals to stay active, and re-learn functional skills such as balance, dexterity, etc.
With the grant they received from us, they were able to purchase storage equipment for the exercise equipment, thera-putty (used for upper limb mobility and dexterity), resistance bands, mirrors and speech and language tools and anatomy models to educate their participants' on the bodies functional movements and help them to visualise which muscles needed more work.
By purchasing new equipment, their client group has encompassed more of their muscles and movements which will be of support in their rehabilitation journey and allow them to participate in physical activity in a safe environment while accessing resources that may be out of their budget and some equipment that needs to be used under the guidance of a professional like ourselves.
Three out of four of their exercise groups include individuals who have mobility issues and since the growth of their service, growth of their groups and new equipment, they have seen two of their wheelchair users walking!
The participants' in the group were over the moon to have use of new equipment and have thoroughly enjoyed the new activities their sports therapist has introduced because of it.
