Brighton and Hove Speak Out

/ July 2022

Back in February we awarded a funding contribution to Brighton & Hove Speak Out. This funding has been used to support fortnightly drop-in sessions. During the pandemic sessions were held online with participants attending via zoom. Sessions cautiously returned to face-to-face meetings at their central Brighton premises in November 2021.

Hertfordshire based Community Interest Company 'Active in the Community' were the recipients of a funding contribution from us in January this year. Their Forever Cycling East Herts project uses static floor bikes to get older adults more physically active. They project a route onto a screen for the users to follow. This means that older adults can virtually cycle around Paris or Sydney from the comfort of their own community centre.

In December 2021 we awarded funding to Peterborough based charity, Crowland Cares. They provide care and practical support to people of all ages within the parish of Crowland.

They used the grant for a one-off special lunch event. Covid restrictions since March 2020 had prevented them from holding their annual calendar of events. This had such a negative impact on their beneficiaries' loneliness, isolation, mental health and wellbeing. It affected some of the most vulnerable people within their community.

Back in early 2020 Lake District based charity 'Vision of Adventure' was awarded a grant from our Jeanette Gill Special Awards fund. With the unfortunate delay in running residential courses in 2020 due to the pandemic, our funding has now been spent on activity courses in 2021.
